Trauma Care for Violence or Shooting Sports

Saturday, October 27, 2018 | 7:30 AM

Instructors: Steve Morrision, Jonathan Massey Assistant: Dwight Edwards, Michael Henshall

The various types of injuries often incurred during violent acts or shooting sports include gunshot wounds, knife wounds, traumatic amputation or impalement and events that may occur during a mass causlaity incident, such as a public shooting or terrorist attack. This 8 hour course will provide you with the mindset and the skills to respond to aggressive acts and accidents incurred during outdoor activities, such as shooting sports, hunting or even arriving upon a serious vehicle accident while on your family vacation. In addition, you will learn how to also apply these techniques to yourself in the event you sustain injury during a self-defense situation.

This is NOT a basic first aid course or CPR class; this is a more advanced level of medical training for serious bodily injury to apply treatment and sustain life until advanced medical support or higher levels of medical treatment are available. This course includes both classroom portions and range portions, including applying a tourniquet to yourself on the range, to a buddy, assessing a mass casulty event, and providing aide during a home invasion or break-in.

Participants will learn how to properly apply and utilize a variety of medical devices and products and will learn the proper application and use of:

  • A tourniquet and how to improvise an effective tourniquet
  • Apply pressure dressings
  • How to use and apply a chest seal
  • Wound packing
  • Nasopharyngeal Airways

+ incorporate applying aid in several scenerio based events

This course is geared to provide you with ample skills and techniques to administar and/or stablize a patient until advanced medical treatment is available, such as how to dress and pack a wound, apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, and essentially keep a person alive until additional medical services are available.

Equipment Needed:

  • Pen & Notebook or Pad
  • Your personal IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) or you can purchase the course with an included IFAK
  • A strong side pistol (in caliber of your choice)
  • Strong side holster + extra magazine pouch
  • Approximately 100 rnd(s) of pistol caliber ammo (no reloads; factory reloads only)
